Krusinski receives Energy Star certification

Rising energy costs and the threat of global warming are prompting companies and office buildings to embrace environmentally responsible principles and practices.

Krusinski Construction Company is making its own positive mark in a number of ways, including adopting a more resource-efficient operating model. The firm’s Oak Brook, Ill., headquarters recently received certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star program for 2008.

Stephen W. Kent of Kent Consulting Engineers of Chicago was the engineer of record for Krusinski’s Energy Star application.

The EPA determined the building is more energy-efficient than 92 percent of U.S. office buildings. Considering that commercial and industrial buildings account for as much as 50 percent of U.S. energy use, according to the EPA, this is a significant achievement.

Among other green efforts, Krusinski is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the office; stepping up its in-house recycling program; and looking into using recycled office supplies and low-emitting cleaning products.

The company’s commitment to helping the planet extends to job sites as well, where materials are reused and recycled to reduce landfill waste. Krusinski also uses locally sourced supplies, when possible, to minimize gas and carbon emissions from trucking and shipping.

The national spotlight is on green, and it’s shining even more brightly at Krusinski.

Hesed House: Kudos to Krusinski

Helping Hands

Companies and consumers aren’t the only ones feeling the pinch of these turbulent economic times. Nonprofit and charitable organizations are finding it increasingly difficult to do more with less.

That’s why Hesed House, Inc. in Aurora was especially appreciative of Krusinski Construction Company’s contribution to the Building Bridges to Brighter Futures capital campaign over the 2008 holidays. Here’s what Ryan Dowd, executive director of Hesed House, had to say:

“Thank you so much for your donation. Times have been tough for the homeless shelter and for the construction industry as well, so we really, really, really appreciate your generous donation in these difficult economic times.”
