April - 2005KRUSINSKI COMPLETES COMCAST TECH/OPS CENTER Krusinski Construction Company, Oak Brook, Ill., has completed a $6 million, 63,000-square-foot Comcast Communications technical operations center in Prairie Lakes Industrial Park in Homewood, Ill. A ribbon cutting ceremony marked the completion, with Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., as well as several State of Illinois representatives in attendance.
The precast concrete and steel structure includes 40,000 square feet of offices and 23,000 square feet of warehouse, along with parking for 691 cars.
The project, which began last April, encountered several challenges, according to Jerry R. Krusinski, project executive.
“The building had to be completed in eight months to allow Comcast to consolidate several smaller payment centers into one large warehouse, payment center and production studio. Tests showed that the soil was unable to support the structure as originally designed, so we had to redesign the footings,” said Krusinski. Careful scheduling allowed Krusinski to complete the project on time.
Krusinski, along with the Dallas-based design team of Gromatzky Dupree and Associates, received the contract as members of Citadel Group, an alliance of eight “best of class” regional construction companies in 15 cities that joined together to serve the needs of national clients.
Comcast, which is on a fast track to build similar operations centers across the country, negotiated one contract with Citadel members to construct these centers at pre-negotiated fees and terms.
