April - 2008KRUSINSKI TO BUILD FACILITY FOR LABORERS Krusinski Construction Company has received a contract to build a 75,900-square-foot training and apprentice center for Chicagoland Laborers Fund at 5700 West Homer in Chicago.
Located over 24 acres on the north side of the city, the building will serve as a second training center for Chicagoland Laborers, which also has facilities in Carol Stream. The center will include three two-story training bays, a welding shop, maintenance shop, two gravel pits and various tool and equipment storage areas. There will be a total of nine state-of-the-art classrooms, nine instructor rooms, an auditorium, three conference rooms, a computer lab, a lunchroom and kitchen.
Exterior landscaping will include a detention pond, 200 new trees and bushes, irrigation systems and berms. Krusinski will also add 197 parking spaces and five drive-in doors.
Construction began on April 2, and completion of the center is anticipated for June 2009, according to Senior Project Manager Jeffrey R. Moecher. The new center is expected to train between 1,000 and 3,000 additional laborers per year.
Dominic W. Valvano is the project engineer and Ralph Colmenares is the senior project superintendent for Krusinski Construction Company. Greg Eischen and Greg Gobel of Chicago-based Fujikawa Johnson and Gobel are the architects.
Founded in 1986, Chicagoland Laborers offers a combination of hands-on and classroom instruction for students to learn construction fundamentals.
